I Thought Miami Was Bad!

At least Canuksailor only had music and lights to contend with.
Last night the same group of punks that has been causing me problems off Eua Gallie Libary dock crossed a line.
right after the bar closed ten or so ran out and started throwing firecrackers everywhere terrorizing a family fishing at end of dock. after only hittiing my boat with two bottle rockets one young man pulled out a hand gun and fired two rounds, missing with both.
once again melbourne police declined to persue.
Time to get a new shotgun.

No dockmaster here, but city supervisor says he has been pushing hard to get police patrols day and night.
Police are warning citizens that it "might" not be safe leaving dock at night !???! one person got jumped a week or two ago i hear(3rd hand).

Re: I thought miami was bad!

Be very very careful how you respond. Remember, they know where you live and you don't know where they live.

And the biggie, they most likely have a lot less to lose in a pissing contest than you do

Best of luck..

Re: I thought miami was bad!

You get this sort of behaviour in many places, not just Florida. Especially after closing time if you tie up near a bar. The yahoos come out to have "fun". I've known of them untying boats and setting them adrift, also throwing rocks off bridges at boats. They're not anti cruisers, it's just their idea of "fun". At least here in Ontario the police will respond to your call. Haven't heard of any firearms going off. My only instance with firearms was when a singlehander on the ICW threatened on the vhf to shoot a power boater who waked him. In that case the sheriff and a swat team forced him to tie up and walk backwards off the boat with his hands on his head.

They were probably too busy "checking toilets".

I saw some students shooting fireworks at passing Rhine River traffic from the Kaiser Wilhelm bridge between Koeln and Deutz a few years back, I didn't take very long at all for the German Police to show up, block both ends of the bridge and round the scoundrels up--(everyone on the bridge--myself included had to present the proper papers and show we had no fireworks on us).

Did the dock have any signs posting whether it was a 38 caliber dock or a 45 caliber dock. You need to know the rules and regulations when you are cruising in a war zone.

Re: I Thought Miami Was Bad!

Wow. Melbourne Florida? I guess I'll scratch that marina off my list.

At Harbortown in Fort Pierce we had 2 security guards walking the docks over the 4th of July weekend. The only noise I had was the big fireworks display going off at the bridge a couple miles down the way. Was a nice show and an otherwise quiet weekend.

He's not in a marina. He's anchored off a public dock.

Still, it shows some pretty low-forehead people live there and cops don't care if they start shooting at other people. Sounds worse than the 3rd world countries we tend to spend our days... (police will come and shoot them here)

ciao!
Nick.

I don't believe much of what I hear or read on forums, but I do believe that I accurately described a trend for 1st world countries. People don't care anymore but for the ones that are disturbed by that, there's many places left where life is good

ciao!
