Re: Giving up the ranch in Colorado and moving to a live aboard sailboat in the Keys

Ann,
Thank you very insightful. I hear ya. I often look at the folks who survived Joplin,Mo and say "my god they lost everything. And I have been to Taiwan and people live very small. my point how much do we really need???? And once we may end up in assisted living or a nursing home we have basically nothing so!!!!

Ann,
You want to hear an especially sad part. I won't get **** for my belongings here. Back outside of Philly I made thousands selling the things I didn't bring with me. There is no money here.

Ok for who reads this lets change direct for awhile.
So any boats one buys should be inspected? Whom do you get? how do you know they are any good? and I assume the one recommended by the broker is not the one to use because they want to sell a boat??????

We bought our boat from Miami and I would be more than happy to PM his info along- he was great- thoroughly knew his stuff And went over and beyond others we had contacted. Plus he is more than well respected throughout the state( for good reason). Both sides of the sale thought he was great- even though he was on our $$. Let me know and I'll forward his info along...

Re: Giving up the ranch in Colorado and moving to a live aboard sailboat in the Keys

One of the great thing about living on a boat is you an always relocate to another place. A good plan would be go to Florida in the spring at the end of the school year buy a boat and travel around Southern Florida until you find a community you like, their are 100s of great places in Florida to live.
Often when you buy a boat you do get stuck where you bought it, fixing the 100 things that have been neglected by the prior owner.
The big negative is for northern people moving to Florida, it is very HOT and MUGGY in the summer, maybe unbearable on a boat without AC.
I ended up in Philippines for change, I still go back to Key West and have my house there. I am looking to buy a 46 Formosa over here it is in Thailand and get back on the water.

I do agree with that plan . We'll see how it all plays out.
As for heat and humidity I am from the suburbs of Philadelphia so I know it all to well

I have family that moved up near Westcliffe a few unstable back. I swear they have become so hard core right wing conspiracy types that I hardly talk to them anymore. I do not consider myself conservative or liberal.....just middle of the road. But I Lile ten idea of the freedom of living aboard . Perhaps I will one day but will be after this teenager is in college or out of college

Keep posting

With the support and what I consider encouragement I seem to be getting here I hope I can follow through and follow another dream I have had since my twenties

Billy, it sounds like you are not too happy with your current situation,
so I say go ahead and sell the ranch and all your stuff.
Get a small RV for now to live in, and take it down to Florida and see how you like it.
