Dinghy Docks in West Palm Beach Florida

Hi all you very experienced gulf stream crossers!

We're going to head for Lake Worth Inlet and need to find a good dinghy dock in that area so we can do final provisioning before heading to the Exumas.

The only one I've found, which may or may not work, is the Jim Barry Light Harbor Park (http://discover.pbcgov.org/parks/Locations/Jim-Barry-Light-Harbor.aspx)

Do you know of a dinghy dock in this area?

Its not “illegal” no matter how many times someone changes the active captain symbol

Btw - its right up there with being among the best cruiser anchoring spots on the east coast when you consideration how close services are

Ps- i think you met the PGA bridge

Try West Palm Sailing Club Palm Beach Sailing Club
Also further south past the lifting bridge you can take the big boat to the free government floating day dock for provisioning (publix supermarket within walking distance) also can anchor there.

Riviera Beach City Marina. $10, I think.
Walking or Uber to BOW and Publix
Can anchor south of Peanut Island on Palm Beach side of ICW

If your really going to do some real provisioning and not just a little bit of shopping, I’d say the sailing club, and rent an Enterprise rental car. That gives you 24 hours to make as many trips as you want for about the same cost as a two way Uber ride.
The sailing club is good if your staying say a week or more, you pay them a small amount and that gives you access to showers, a place for Amazon to ship to and showers as well as a place to dispose of garbage.

Be aware though that the entire area around there is a no wake zone and it’s well patrolled. I’ve sat at anchor and watched the Sheriff or whoever run a mile or more at very high speeds to ticket a dinghy.

YES we used the Sailing Club with a one week membership. The bus on the US1 drives you just in front of Enterprise... but we found the 60$/day quite high, and be sure you return the car BEFORE the 24 hours otherwise an other 60$ for one minute.

I've used the dock at Phil foster park. There was space to anchor n & s of the bridge. I haven't been there for a while but it was awesome. Easy walk to publix. Good current flow there and watch for scuba divers under the causeway.

Re: Dinghy Docks in West Palm Beach Florida

Turn left as you enter Lake Worth Inlet. Proceed South past Port of Palm Beach, the Palm Beach Sailing Club. Continue South under the first bascule bridge (Flagler Memorial) - West Palm City Docks are on your right, West side, just past marina. They are free, accommodate about 7' draft, and are excellent floating docks. Except for holidays, they are never full. Dockage is permitted daily until about 10:00 p.m. but not strongly enforced. Occasional overnight docking is ignored - we dock there to go to the Kravis Center for opera/theater and have not been troubled.

Some places along the dock have potable water but no electricity or pump out - after all they are free. Ask about the water, it is hard to find.

About 1/2 block from the dock is a trolly - also free - that goes to PUBLIX for major provisioning. The trolly runs every few minutes and is, did I mention it, free.

The anchorage near the docks is also free, never full (including July 4), and very well protected.

Dont leave your dinghy un-attended at Phil Foster Park,,,,,,,,just sayin'

Capt Stu has best advice: City of West Palm Beach public docks, between the two bridges downtown, easy walk to Publix, or free shuttle around downtown and to the bus/Amtrak/TriRail station where you can get everywhere easily.

I am moored about 3\4 mile south of the Lake Worth Inlet on the East side and belong to the Palm Beach Sailing Club. There is plenty of room to anchor in the mooring field and also available mooring balls for rent. All are private. If I can help you in any way when to get here I’ll be glad to help. I have a van and can take you shopping if you like. Just let me know when you get close.

Re: Dinghy Docks in West Palm Beach Florida

Many thanks everyone! We are anchored in N Palm Beach and the dinghy locking cable under PGA Blvd bridge, while pretty cheesy, is still there.

Freelandken,
I saw your post from back in January about mooring balls being available off the palm beach sailing club. I would be very interested in a month on a ball. Do you know how to find out more/who to contact?
Thanks!
