5 Months To Reach Here And 2 More To Go.

The idea of liveaboard resurfaced in May 12, after dormant for almost a decade. This time things seems quite doable so began research, enroll courses, boat search using internet at places like Phuket and Langawi. The original plan was a 4 years plan, then advance to 2 years, then it went full team to adhead and it's happening in 8 months. Never think is possible to get a used sailboat (with in budget) at where I'm located, Singapore.

However, I found her, Jeanneau Sundance 36. about 5km to the east of my house. Within two weeks our sellers and buyer have come to agreement and the deal should be sealed by end Sept or early Oct 12.

Spending the next two weeks to conduct sea trial, survey and buy insurance.

Target to spend about 2 months to do minor interior works and shift on board by Dec 12 with my wife and two girls (16 and 12).

Wow, now I'm scared... time compression..

Calm down. It isn't as bad as it seems. It is, afterall, a clashing of realities.

Welcome to the liveaboard life, it is a sweet secret one once you move aboard makes one realize how simple life can be and uncluttered. Enjoy

Tks guys.

To calm down. I'm now at the marina where my house will be in 2 weeks, having beer and visualising the life of liveaboard.

Re: 5 months to reach here and 2 more to go.

Tks Guys.

Current plan is just liveaboard, no big plan of cirumnavigation or long trip. The most is two weeks trip around South East Asia, but should be doing lots of sailing around Singapore on weekends. The typical society ties still exist for the next 10 years. Youngest girl will graduate 10 years from now. So I have 10 years to master my skill to sail.

2 more weeks to take over the boat.

We are also on a countdown to the end of the year... with a three kids finishing school in December... How will we adjust to life onboard? Our oldest is 13 and he will probably find the transition most difficult going from a busy social life in a small island community to a non-existent social life. Have you got education sorted?

Wow great! Lets work towards year end! Interestingly Christmas Island and Singapore used to be under the same sovereinty.

Singaporenis not big, and as we not doing long crusing so often education is no different as compare to shore based. They get to go high school as normal except they will be the coolest in school as they are boat teen!

My girls are so excited with the idea of living aboard. My youngest girls is all ok to part her friends and have this "cool" life style.

The marina that I'm going to live in has no other liveaboard, so it all quiet at night. But day time on the week ends will be vibrant.

Is that cat your liveaboard? Cool

Cheers

Ok, living onboard in a marina will be cool, and going to school as normal. Yes, this is our catamaran in the Caribbean where we will start our life at sea. Big Chinese influence on CI with strong Singapore connections... not a long passage for you to head south to CI, could even pick up a few asylum seekers on route! The cruising yachts have been a bit light on this year bypassing us for Cocos.

Ahhh Caribbean, I must pay a visit to this place. And yes, Darwin is one of my planned destination for holiday, should add CI as a stop over.
