Need Upper Keys Worldly Knowledge

Planning a short trip down to Key Largo/ Rodriquez key. Any advice or knowledge would be appreciated. We are going down to do some snorkeling and hanging on the hook

I've been to Rodriguez - both sides. The last time was this past April. Pick the side based on the wind. It isn't the most wonderful of anchorages. The water has gotten incredibly clear there though - I definitely noticed the change this year. Snorkeling should be really fun throughout the area.

Be sure to get info on dive/snorkel site in the John Pennekamp park area. The only reef in the USA. Mooring balls available to pick up and some fabulous snorkeling.

the ocean side anchorage off rodriguez key has some poor holding, lots of grass. put down two big danforths or other grass holding anchors.

go snorkling on the unmarked reefs about a mile or so east of rodriquez - you can spot them on the charts. anchor in the sand and snorkel over to the reefs - some parts are shallow enough to stand on if you get nervous.
