Question Connecticut to Cape Town

Hi, we are planning a voyage from Connecticut to Cape Town, South Africa. We are familiar with the North Atlantic, and have done several transatlantic voyages, and down the Caribbean. We have no experience with the South Atlantic! Any advice on areas to stay away from and possible routes?

I am aware of the prevailing winds/currents, just not weather patterns in the area.

Thanks!

Re: Connecticut to Cape Town

Have crossed from Senegal to Brazil, the low point in what otherwise was a piece of cake were The Doldrums... aptly named and stretching about 10 deg north and south of the Equator. A good time to motor if you have the fuel. We had NO wind in June. What stops, if any,are you planning?
