Storage in Central France?

Hello cruisers,

Me and my mrs. are now located on our sailboat in Lyon, heading north.

The plan is to put the boat on land somewhere in central France but so far we have only found one marina in saint-Jean which will cost us around 1300 Euros for keeping it over a 6 month period.

Does anyone here possess the knowledge about other marinas in central France which might leave a smaller dent in our budget?

With regards,
Reynir and Anna

Hopefully depth of your boat will be max 1.60m, dont trust of printed guides.
Some waterways are no more or less maintained, in particular small channels.

Hi,

yes I have looked at the website and it does give some information about the canal systems. It however lacks totally any information about where the boat can be wintered on the hard.

Re: Storage in Central France?

Just watched a report of a german couple who described their voyage with a motoryacht through France few years ago.
Keep of bridge clearances are below 3,35m f.e. Canal des Vosges. Voies navigables de France wrote 3,50m
One asked "where are 3,50m??" in 1993!!
Canal de l'Est branche sud </head>
Don´t trust...

Wintering on hard can be diff. because of lacking haul out facilities.

1300 euro doesn't sound that bad for six months. What is the size of the boat?

Why don't you pull out your cruising guide and call marinas one at a time, starting at the ones closest to where you want to leave the boat?

Be sure and post what you find out here.

I have spent many years on the waters in France. Try The boatyard in Laroche Migennes and there is one in Sens. St jean is a pretty good place to be actually as it has a lot for boaters.. Depending on draft, try Burgundy Cruisers in Vermenton ( but they dont have permanent craning facilities- however they are english and know everyone so can advise brilliantly) the closer you get to Paris the more expensive it gets.......
