Seriously….?

Hey All,

Been trying to figure this one out and can't, so now I'm even more curious - why do some boat ads say "seriously offered" or "seriously for sale"? Is that opposed to "just kidding, it's not for sale"?

Re: Seriously….?

Yep, it may be "trying" to indicated a "motivated seller".

Re: Seriously….?

Code for "make me an offer, any offer" without wanting to sound blatantly desperate! Selling stuff is always about perception - sales 101

Re: Seriously….?

Then again, it might be only "puffery." Words put in to draw interest.
Boat listings often tend to stray from reality.
"Meticulously maintained" may mean just that, or that the owner has not put in a dime for 10 years, so the alternator is held on with nylon tie wraps, all the wiring is lamp cord, and the nav lights are held on with duct tape. But it was all done meticulously.

Sent from an undisclosed location on the high seas or from the lounge chair by the pool, you decide.

Re: Seriously….?

There are a whole lot of boats out there that are not "seriously" for sale. They are way over-priced. Or the owner is never available. Or you can only view the boat every third Tuesday, between 9:15 and 10:23. Or whatever.

This is to differentiate from those. And, yeah, sort of a way of saying that you'll listen to any offer, while trying not to sound desperate.

Re: Seriously….?

I would say the answer could be any of the above or occasionally several of the above at once.

I have certainly seen plenty of boats that were NOT seriously for sale. Have often seen boats "for sale" because the wife said get rid of it so the husband lists it but at a very high price, hoping no one will actually buy it.

More often, the owner may genuinely want to sell but is either too emotionally attached to the boat or convinced that he/she must get back the cost of all the improvements and upgrades put into the boat so just price the boat too high.

Of course there has never been a seller or heaven forbid, a yacht broker, that inserted a bit of hype in a boat ad.

Re: Seriously….?

I usually go for 'totes' or 'for realz' or 'forizzle' or 'holla at cha boat'

MUCH more effective.

Well obviously you are a foreigner in these parts. Everyone south of the Mason Dixon line knows that yall is plural, referring to more than one, whereas I am only one person.

So I get the general idea but what the heck is "totes" specifically or "forizzle"? I sell chemicals and to me totes are 250 gallon liquid containers for customers that need something larger than a standard drum.

Forizzle? I won't touch that one with a 10 meter pole.

Re: Seriously….?

Analogous to the phrases " to tell you the truth..." Or the even more popular idiom "honestly". Both imply the speaker usually lies.

Re: Seriously….?

This totes just became the best CF thread ever. forizzle.

totes = totally
Urban Dictionary: Totes
Urban Dictionary
If you do the math, the average time saved by using the word totes as opposed to totally would save 26.6 seconds a day!

Urban Dictionary, October 26: come correct...
Urban Dictionary
fo rizzle. "for real". "Dude, I used to be a woman!" "Fo rizzle?" "fo sho". by kim and kathy ... forizzle. Basically, for real. Except cooler!

Uh... No. "Y'all" is singluar. Used to refer to one person. If you're talking to more than one person it's "all y'all."

Now, I might--just MIGHT--believe that you know something about the South if you can tell me the difference between sweet tea and sweetened tea.

Re: Seriously….?

Damn…I need to get back on the water soon…y'all are nuts…I like that

Thanks for all the replies…I figured it was something like that but it seems to be in every other ad that I was convinced there was some secret meaning!

My friend sells real estate - I'm going to tell him to put that into his listings.

Sweet tea is what they serve at my family reunions. Has enough sugar to put the average Yankee into a diabetic coma. In extreme cases there is enough sugar that the tea has the viscosity of molasses in December.

Sweetened tea has a bit of sugar added.
