Hey, Dirtysouth. You need to add extra charge classes in the evenings. That's where you make the bucks that float your boat. For example: Evening of Day 2 - boarding a dingy from the main yacht deck. Evening of Day 4 - managing the jib downhaul from the bowsprit. Evening of Day 6 - rescuing overboard drunks. Overall, the program sounds great. I want a Puget Sound franchise.

you're thinking too small. what you want to do is certify the instructors who will teach this course. Then you have them purchase log books, graduation stickers, and official grog samples from you. Then you branch out, and create an advanced certification for gin drinkers.

Bash....I think he can take it even further and branch out to a really open group of Cruisers who are always up for something new.

make an 'entrance exam' for the partners/franchisers and create your own 'approved' liscence.

This liscence is what also makes the money and keeps people serious and trying again if not good enough.......like most other 'government approved' liscences ; they are bs compared to experience and prove of seamanship

A few suggestions for the curriculum...

In order to be certified, each student must demonstrate the ability to:

1. Restore all brightwork to factory new.
2. Find and fix all rain leaks.
3. Inspect and upgrade all anchor chain and rode with 10' markers.
4. Change engine oil and filter at least twice.
5. Polish cabin sole to glistening brightness.
6. Wash and wax mast and spreaders from a bosun's chair.
7. Switch the Y valve to the holding tank before the Coast Guard gets aboard.
8. Train the incontinent boat dog to use the astroturf on the foredeck.
9. Keep coolers fully stocked with beer and ice at all times.
10. Keep bilge bone dry for a minimum of 72 hours.

Distance learning, use the Internet to train virtual sailors - at least enough to not get shouted at on internet forums for asking asking dumb* questions.

The exam should be easy...........

...........the big bonus is you don't have to meet / put up with / be nice to the Punters




* once experienced or trained "dumb newbie questions" simply become asking about something you don't know No matter how dumb the question / questioner is

Defining a real boat with sails
Sneering at boats without sails.
Getting ice from boats without sails.

I need a more basic class...like.....How not to die as ya puke over the side and turn green as the port side bowlight......or is that Red?

I'd prolly turn green then red as i started dry heaving....if i didnt shift to starboard puke rail would i be in violation of USCG regs?

Suggestions for the practical exam at the end....

Find password for strongest wifi signal in the anchorage within 30 mins.
Drink jack iron rum all evening without inviting the entire anchorage for dinner the next day.
Eat 3 kilos of bananas in one sitting when the all ripen at the same time.
find a 1/4" stainless machine screw in a metric country using no more than a spanish/portuguese phrase book and an out of date tourist map. Unlimited time for this one but you can charge extra for "cultural exchange" and language tuition.
Demonstrate ability to sail atlantic circuit using 10 year old cruising guides and a dodgy copy of maxsea.

Alright, maybe the jack iron one is setting the bar a little too high....
