Anybody Iceboating?

Last year it started snowing in mid-January and didn't stop; we sailed March and the first w/e in April.

This year a few souls got out a couple days after the long delay waiting for hard water. Now it's been so warm that there's no good ice.

Anybody getting any ice time in?

Re: Anybody Iceboating?

Not sure if you can see facebook videos but here's a friend of my brothers latest adventure :-(

Brother's been sailing Ghost Lake this winter... he's in a wheelchair so ice sailing just seemed "natural"?

Re: Anybody Iceboating?

Hmmm, anybody interested in swaping some time on solid water for time in the Carib?

Re: Anybody Iceboating?

No ice sailing here ... ;-(

(Canary Islands, the name of the place tells you the story)

But I always look with envy at people living where one can. In places from Russia thru Germany it is a big sport.

Interestingly, ice cruising also exists.

Cheers,
b.

Re: Anybody Iceboating?

Tried it once, years ago, on Big Marine Lake in Minnesota. Fast, exciting and COLD! I was young and nuts then. Used to push my windsurfer out over the shore ice to get to open water. When you love to sail you find a way no matter what.

Re: Anybody Iceboating?

I am sure there are many newer designs. We built a "DN" (stands for "Detroit News") plans were printed in the newspaper in the mid 1960's...I would go out after breakfast and not home til' dinner, truly a good bucket list item! Instant acceleration!!!
