That still has a lot of miles to go before it will be a nautical knick-knack!

Re: Solid Bronze Manual Windlass

Curious for folks that may know... How long would it take to haul up 100' of chain with this (beautiful) machine?

About as long as an electric one. Just because it is old technology, doesn't mean it is slow.

Re: Solid Bronze Manual Windlass

I see it is on ebay now...starting bid $1100. I think it will sell there. I think CFer's either have no money for such a beautiful windlass or have a ton of money and an electric windlass on their Huntabenalina.

Re: Solid Bronze Manual Windlass

I just bought a new to me used Goderich 35; it has the same windlass. I was happy to see it as part of the equipment. I will copy down some of the info on this thread should I need a spring or other part.

i agree. that would be a waste of a good, functioning piece of equipment.

Re: Solid Bronze Manual Windlass

This Windlass looks very similar to the Muir product that I have on my boat although Muir uses an Aluminum housing.

It's pretty fast, it just requires a bit of effort on your part. Taleisin has 300 foot of chain, I haven't had it all out yet so I can't tell answer your question. But I can imagine that it is practical, given the previous owners...

Re: Solid Bronze Manual Windlass

If I had a need I'd buy it for sure. As it is my bronze Plath manual windlass is doing just fine. It's single speed, double action, so probably not as fast as this one. I haul up 100' of 3/8" chain in ~10 minutes if taking it leisurely. Of course, I can go a lot faster if I have to. But I hate going fast [emoji6]

Agree with both you and Don CL, but if you don't have the boat for it.. Let it live as a thing of beauty and not scrap.
