Re: Autopilot replacement parts - 3D printed

Website says closed for business.
The store says closed for maintenance.

That's a shame, hope he comes back strong:

Just a FYI, Rick and i3dgear are still in business.

If the parts you require are out of stock from i3dgear, they can be ordered from the associated Shapeways marketplace, who according to Rick, now produce higher quality parts as they have a better 3d printer than Rick's.

I prefer to have spares on-board, even if I don't have an immediate need for them. Kind of like umbrellas, if you have one, it won't rain, if you don't, guaranteed that it will.

And we don't own boats, we're merely custodians. The next custodian will appreciate having spares on-board, even though the manufacturer is no longer in business or the parts are unavailable.

So in addition to a set of roller wheels, I'll be buying two replacement belts, one for now, and one for later.

Don’t worry, I’m still in business! When I go on vacation, the only notice that my e-commerce system allows me to put on the website is Closed for Maintenance. This is a small retirement hobby business, but I plan on making these parts available for a long time still. And I’m working on a way for the printing to be outsourced while I’m on vacation so they’re still accessible for people. I have a passion for reducing needless equipment waste by providing all these sought after parts. I make very little money on it, but I feel it’s an important service.

Rick, how do I reach out? I checked the website and it looks like it is closed for maintenance. I need a part for my windvane printed.
Thanks

Re: Autopilot replacement parts - 3D printed

Sorry, I don't do any wind vane parts. Not enough demand to spend the many hours required to design and perfect them for 3D printing. Contrary to misconceptions online, scanning simply isn't an option for mechanical parts - not accurate enough, and scanners can't see internal features like threads, holes, etc. Not to mention that design considerations for injection moulding are inconsistent with 3D printing. You'll end up with a weak, breakable part. Parts need to be redesigned, dimension by dimension and feature by feature.

Sorry.

Thanks, but I have the design and all the .STL files, I am only looking for someone to print them.
