Seeking an affordable slip

Hello friends! I am brand new here. In fact this is my first post. I would simply like to know where the CHEAPEST slips in the S. E. Florida area are. Perhaps even in the Keys. Precise location does not matter. In fact, it really doesn't even have to be S.E. Fla.. Cost is the main issue for me as I will be attempting to make this work strictly on a disability income. My plans to live aboard a boat will be made or broken based solely on slip cost. Any guidance would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks everyone.

Re: Seeking an affordable slip

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Kabe.

Liveaboard dockage is fairly expensive in S. Florida.
Could you make a mooring work?

$9.00/ft +/- in the Daytona-Titusville area for annual dockage. Add to that electric at 50-75/mo and a liveaboard fee of 50-100/mo. Generally, gets more expensive the further south you go.

you can do a search on the craigslist boats section .. you may be surprised and find what will work for you. many places don't allow live aboards and that is an unfortunate fact. i saw a slip in st. augustine for 6.00 a foot. good luck and keep looking

$6 a foot aint too shabby if it includes power, water and pumpout. But if you're not planning or capable of working maybe a mooring would be best for you. I am planning to stay at Halifax harbor marina next winter and for around $540 a month for all the amenities is doable as I will be working. It's still cheap rent to be comfortable imo.

Good luck!

Haliax is a nice liveaboard place, north basin is homey, if you get on the old dock it's a straight shot out the fairway and fairly quite. My boat lived there for about 10 years.
St Augastine may still have Riverbend Marina, about 5 years ago it was about $400/month for a 35 footer for 2 months, long term would be less.

I WISH there was 6 buck a foot slips around Jacksonville! It is running twice that for NONliveaboard......plus electric.....

There is always green cove springs that is less than here, but it is a dirty place....there is one other place near Jacksonville, but it is a bad section of town, no floating docks, sections caved in, half sunk boats(listing and sitting on bottom) anchored out....

I am always hearing people say...it was only X dollars per foot 5 years ago....yeppers, that was years ago. Heck, 20 years ago it was only $4/FT. and there weren't as many thieves stealing stuff.
