Maritime Letter of Authorization, Mexico

I am sailing my boat from San Diego to Ensenada, Mexico and looking over the required paperwork. I am not sure if I need a Maritime Letter of Authorization or not. The boat is owned by an LCC (of which I am an officer). Do I need anything to show that I have authorization by the corporation to operate the boat?

Man I wouldn't go down to MX without anything that you could imagine. Ensenada might be OK but you never know. You might get the red light, so to speak.

Go on Latitude 38's website to see if this is addressed; perhaps contact them, too. They run the Baja HaHa (Baja Ha-Ha Cruisers Rally: Sailing from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas) and are very familiar with all things Mexico, especially after the recent fiasco with the impounded boats.

Re: Maritime Letter of Authorization, Mexico

When we were cruising Mexico and Central America, we met several cruisers who had issues with their LLC's in Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama.

Have a Letter of Authorization typed up, even if you are on the board. Although not usually required, get it translated to Spanish as well.

You may not need it, but if you do and don't have it.... I could cause problems.
