Flag Disposal

Is there a proper way to dispose of a flag? Our American Courtesy flag is now torn and tattered so we have replaced it but I'm not sure what to do with it now? Do you simply throw it in the trash? Although it is not our national flag, I sort of think it deserves the same respect I would give the Canadian Flag. Is there a 'custom' or proper way to dispose of flags?

So the recommended way to get rid of the flag is to burn it. You could be excused for comparing this recomendation, with the video of other nationalities burning the flag and people getting hot under the collar about it!

As with most things, it's a matter of intent. To dispose of a flag privately, is a matter of respect. To do so for the media, or other onlookers, as a form of protest, is definetly a matter of disrespect. So there really is no comparision to be made between the two.
