Re: Do you pass up dead bodys and leave them stay?

In the case of extreme mountaineering, the deceased are left where they have fallen. As with any sport, inherent risks exist that we accept. I was in the USCG and hauling in floaters was a nasty chore.

Re: Do you pass up dead bodys and leave them stay?

In the middle 60s, the 120 ft barquentine Ramona, in a squall storm at night in December, came over the reef, and sunk at North Rock Bermuda. First light was calm, she was visible from harbour Radio. we were one of the first boats to her, and passed 2 drowned crew who had tried to swim the 9 miles to shore. Left them for the police as there were still alive crew aboard the exposed gunwale.

Re: Do you pass up dead bodys and leave them stay?

i think i have a solution for this issue.
if i get into bad weather i will put on all of my gold jewelry, when someone sees my dead body in the water they will notice the gold and will have to bring me on board to get all the gold off. not only that, i will inscribe my name and address on the gold so i can be found.... better yet i think i will get a tether

Re: Do you pass up dead bodys and leave them stay?

A friend of mine found a floater and called the the police who sent out the game warden, he was wondering while they waited what method they would use to recover the body and was totally surprised when they quickly tied a line around the body and towed it off at 2/3kts ! Given the decomposition there could not have been much evidence left after the 4 mile tow ???????????????????

I thought you were going in the direction that the gold would keep you from floating back up

Takes about 150 lbs. to keep a body down.

As I recall, within the last year or so, "floaters" were found in both Mare Island Strait and the Oakland-Alameda channel.
