Re: Cuba customs rules for guns on the boat

beside any discussion about guns on board in general, I 'm in doubt that Cuban customs would allow weapons on board of US-flagged boats.
Last time American sailors came with weapons a big fiasco has happened...
Anybody remember of '61 ??

To anyone wanting info on Guns and Customs/Countries is better of going to Noonsite.com — Noonsite which gives fairly up to date info on every aspect of visiting by boat and a list of Visa, Customs, Health requirements..
If you are still not happy, every Country in the world has a Web presence these days and a Google Search will pull up the thier 'Page' with all the information you will need.
However.. to me it seems.. coming on here to ask the question and expect an accurate answer.. from the varied bunch of us 'Sailors' who claim to drink at the font of all knowledge is naive to say the least.. reality being.. we know some.. ******** others and speculate eternally on others..unless.. you plan on concealment and do not wish to alert the authorities to your possible intentions...
In which case the best site is www.iwannabeapirate@somalia.com

Re: Cuba customs rules for guns on the boat

What many simply cannot figure out is the question. Whether a weapon is needed in Cuba was not asked. What about cruising boats? Not all boats originate from USA and go solely to Cuba. Some boats actually come from other countries and go to other places that might well happen to include Cuba.
It is a question that I would like the answer to, as well.

Ask the Countries.. they make the Rules...
Not the Cruisers..
One gets totally bored forever explaining that some countries allow a shot gun if.. You apply for a licence ahead of time.. on arrival can demonstrate a secure gun locker meeting their regulations.. register with police at every port you stop at in the country and present your log and papers.. Blah, Blah, Blah....
Anchors is more fun..

But don't mind me..

I also agree that we should be armed while in cruise, always situations may require defence of our life and heritage.

CUBA:
FIRE ARMS,DRUGS,ETC

All firearms must be declared on arrival including flares and flare guns. They will be taken into custody until the vessel departs the marina.

Illegal drugs and pornographic material are prohibited and may not be brought into the country.

I agree with Boatie, why ask here, firstly few carry firearms, so you have a small sample set, secondly must that do are Americans, and they havent being going to Cuba

Why not contact Cuba, you're hardly going to seriously act on what you set here on CF !

Of the two occasions I had firearms aboard ( not Cuba) I found the rules often depended on who you met and how they viewed firearms. Often the locals have a wide variety of reposes within their law.

Hence it can be hard to generalise ,especially as the sample set is so small

Re: Cuba customs rules for guns on the boat

While I have no personal experience sailing into Cuba with firearms a quick Internet search on official Cuban sites suggests one needs to obtain a permit before arriving there. I suspect a permit for a firearm that is not for hunting or for a shooting competition will be particularly difficult to obtain.

Here are some of the sites I visited (in Spanish):

Customs

InfoTur

Given limited the diplomatic relations between Cuba and the US, at least at the being, I would think obtaining a permit before leaving the US would be extremely difficult.
