Re: Confusion in Phuket

Yeah, Why am I not surprised, I've been living in Thailand for over 4 years, not a long time, My wife and I own a restaurant/ bar on a beach not far from Ban Phe, But I've been there long enough to see what's coming, I believe and so do the expats that know there, they have been in Thailand a lot longer than me, Thailand is going to implode/ explode, take your pick, in the near future, I hate to be pessimistic about it, but there it is, we're selling our business, which is a good one, to her sister, and I'm taking the wife and her boy to the states, I was going to suggest calling Alan at Boatshed Phuket, but after reading the article, I don't think he'll know any more.

Re: Confusion in Phuket

"the owner will have to pay overstay fees of 1,000 baht per day up to a maximum of 10,000 baht."

$300(?) and the boat gets to stay as long as you want - could be worse. Whether that money gets to head office is another thing!

IMO once the King dies then all bets will be off, but that another subject for another day......

Re: Confusion in Phuket

I agree, 300 dollars is not much for an indefinite stay, so why not just have a levy or fee. Why make people technically criminal and break the law by overstaying.
It sends the wrong message and drives away a business that brings millions into the local economy.
But then, saying one thing and meaning/doing another is just so Thai.

Re: Confusion in Phuket

Good news.

After meetings with local shipwrights and marina operators who complained about the numerous cancellations because of proposed 2 month stay limit the customs department have backflipped and will now give 6 month import certificates with extensions to 12 months with conditions.
Normal tourist visas still apply to crew which will have to be renewed every two months. New overstay penalties at 1000 baht a day ($30) max 10 000 baht ($100).

Now wasn't that easy! ...
