Brits in the USA

Hello, thank you everybody who has welcomed us to the C.F.
Here is my question!
We have bought a wonderful Bruce Roberts Spray in Michigan, we are two Brits. who want to sail her round the Lakes and down the I.C.W. this year.
We have paid State tax and Registration fee, we have been granted 6 month stay Visas ,have Yachtmaster Offshore and I.C.C. Certificates, bearing in mind that our yacht is U.S.A. registered do we need any more paperwork to have on board when we leave?
Thanking you for your advice in advance.

Marty.

Crabby, I'm not sure how this works for you being on a visa but for Americans we are required to have a FCC license on board to operate a VHF **internationally**. So if you plan to hop between Canada and the US this may be something to check on. If you are sticking to the US side this is unnecessary. Check and make sure the boat has all required safety gear as well and you should be fine. The radio is the only thing I can think of.

Re: Land of the free.

Thanks, I have my U.K. VHf License with D.S.C., we will be entering Canada on our trip and I will check our safety gear before we depart.
All good fun!
Cheers, Marty.

You will also want proof of liability insurance if you plan on staying in marinas.

Welcome to the USA, and enjoy your stay!

It's pretty rare to be asked for that in my experience, but it can be helpful. Theoretically, you need an FCC ship station license if you are leaving the USA, which is your boat's radio license. I have never been asked for either my own personal radio license or the ship station license when checking into any country, but theoretically you are supposed to have them.
