British Small Ships Register

I have just bought a 57 foot catamaran which I had intended to Register on Part 1 of the British Register - but that is expensive and involves a survey (she is in a foreign port). I qualify for Part 3 (Small Ships Register) - are there any disadvantages to using it? Obviously it is MUCH cheaper and easier (can be done on-line).
Is it universally accepted as sufficient for clearing in foreign ports?
Help and advice gratefully received

Round the Atlantic inc Africa & South America I had no problems at all. A quick google came up with this..
UK Flagged Yacht in Caribbean - Part 1 or Part 111 Registration? - Yachting and Boating World Forums

So plenty have gone all the way round registered part 3 ssr. One slight downside is that you can't re-register after 5 years online, but I paid over the phone and they sent out a new doc.
