Stern Tube replacement/refurbishment

We have some "weapage" from just above our stern tube area, this is NOT to be confused with the cutlass bearing that fits inside. our boat and Allied Wright 40, is 1977 construction and we think that the best thing for us to do is have a new stern tube made (or we make our own) and after boring out the old one/area insert the new one and "glue" it in with epoxy.

Has anyone had any experience of doing this? Any photos?

Thanks for your help

regards

Re: Stern Tube replacement/refurbishment

swapped-out the old pitted stainless stern tube with G10. a bit more work with glass and epoxy as the the G10 is thicker-walled, but anytime i can get metals out of the boat below the waterline i do it...

G10 tube available from mcmaster-carr
