Salvage Yard Search - Swing Keel for an irwin

I have a 1975 28.5 Irwin Mark iV in SE Florida. At some point a few months ago, my swing keel detached itself and went on its own merry journey. Does anyone know of any salvage yards in the area where I might try to locate a replacement? Or any other potential ideas as to getting a suitable replacement. Having a new one manufactured costs more than she is worth right now. That said, she's too good a vessel to give up on.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

DanSoFla,

I am not sure about SE FL other than SailorMans in FTL.

However, I have a swing keel out of an Irwin.

It is marked as a 28, but it came out of a 25.

I will be picking it up from down at a friends house, as it will not fit his Watkins without extensive modifications.

I can measure, and send a picture. Not sure what it is worth, or the cost of getting it to you.

It is currently in Tampa.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Dan.

It looks like your already off to a good start, here. Hope SmallYachts’ keel works out for you.

smallyachts, that would be awesome if it fit. I have attached a line drawing of the original keel from Irwin. If it fits (even if its a little small), I could drive up to Tampa and buy it from you. I have a pickup. Have a look and please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Irwin 25/28 centerboard

DanSoFl,

Yes, the dimensions match.

Another Irwin mystery solved! I was always wondering if the 28 marked on the side of it was a mismark, or if both hulls used the same centerboard.

Let me know what you want to do.
