Rust Problem

I had a heat exchanger removed and tested on a Detroit Diesel, when they brought it back it was damaged and when it was installed it sprayed salt water all over my engine. They replaced the heat exchanger but just washed down the motor. Now I have to get that rust off that has started off of the motor and off of the steel beam support. Does anyone know the best way to get it off? And is the engine block aluminum?

Paint the engine block and mounts with Osphlo. It turns iron oxide to iron phosphate and seals the exposed metal surface similar to a flat coat. Then wait 24 hours and clean the engine with thinner and a rag, or just hose off the debris and dirt with frsh water and repaint.

Tried that. The rust seemed to just come right back

Try Fertan,

It is used on the North Sea oil rigs, I have used it in several similar engine room environments and seems to work well, keep misting with fresh water once applied to keep it active for 24 hrs, then wash any residual, leave for a few days.
Any rust that shows after that period - reapply, repeat until no rust reappears.You don't need to paint over but if you want to I would recommend leaving unsealed for a few weeks until all rust has been converted before you do
