repairing a cutless bearing strut

I was removing the Cutlass bearing from the strut using a Sawzall and I cut a Bit deep cutting into bronze strut. I did not cut all the way through but put a pretty good Groove In the strut. I would like to repair this before pressing in the Cutlass bearing. What is the most likely material this is made out of, I am thinking of using brass wire to braze the groove or maybe even Silver solder, has anybody done this and what is the best filler Rod to use?

The strut will be made of bronze. you'll need some brazing wire that is in the bronze family.
