Repair underwater damage - how soon?

We have had a ground contact with our fiber glass catamaran. One skeg has broken away. How soon should such a damage get repaired? When does the material start suffering substantially without the gelcoat?
Are 10 days more in the water acceptable?

Thats pretty funny, you don't seem to care about your missing skeg. You could go quite some time before you have any problems with you hull.

as long as the hull is not leaking, i would not worry too much.
the damage will not absorb sea water for a long period.......months,once out any delaminated glass will have to be ground back substantially then repaired with epoxy

Well, we got the skeg out of the water :-)
it just needs to get glued onto the hull again.

Well, the point is if it is very disadvantageous if I wait until we reach a shipyard which has offerings which suit me. This can take 2 weeks or so.

Is the hull solid or cored below the waterline? If its cored you want it out of the water yesterday!
