Removing Chrome From Bronze

Anyone know of a home brewed way of removing chrome from bronze? Would rather have outside port-light frames all bronze then to pay to have them re-chromed since the old layer is pealing off.

Appreciate any thoughts!

usually (i believe) there is a nickle coating before chrome. Removing nickle will be the bigger challenge.

I had luck with a multimaster tool with sanding attachment. Started with a low grit and worked my way up before finishing with compound polish and wax. Pretty tedious stuff!!

Plating shops can strip the plating off. Don't know if it's any cheaper than plating.
It should be as they don't have to pay for any metal.
I bet someone will come along and tell us how to un-plate something with a battery charger and a tub of acid.

Just did this whole process to 8 of my winches. Had a local plating shop strip the chrome $250 for all of them. Chrome plated bronze is very coarse and pitted once stripped, mine had a pink cast as well, I started with 220 grit then 320 then 500. At that point I decided to buff, things came out great but I wasn't too happy on how it was patinaing naturally so I sanded again at 500 grit a bought some M38 darkening patina online, with dark wax $100. Came out exactly how I wanted. Have yet to update the blog with the process but should have it up in the next couple days. ill try to post a couple photos from my phone in the mean time.

Buffed vs right from the stripper. I would reccomend getting the stripping done from someone who knows what they are doing.

if you submerge a nickle in coke over night would the nickle dissolve.
