I wouldnt worry about the fuel consumption, it's almost nil I think!

Re: Living aboard a 25 ft while crossing oceans

Charlie,
Wondering how it's going, any pictures for us to see? I am looking at a 27' Bucaneer- yes the "crappy" Bucaneer but I am looking at it for a cheap live aboard and shallow lake sailer for a couple years so I'm interesting in the layout you've done as the one I'm looking at as already been gutted so I will be starting with a bare hull as well. I have no plans to take it into the gulf but will take it in the ICW of AL and NW FL possibly. I like a lot of the changes you have proposed- though with my plans I don't really need to beef up the boat- I just want to use this one as a learning ground for the next boat.

Re: Living aboard a 25 ft while crossing oceans

Hi Biker
Things have happened since my last post. I now own 3 boats my original hunter 26, the 25ft that I am rebuilding and a 27ft cheribini hunter. Eight hp Yanmar its under powered but I am installing an outboard bracket also. I bought the hunter 27 realizing that I wouldn't be able to finish the 25 by the end of this year. I'll have the 27 ready to leave Lake City Marina, Mn in 2 weeks. I plan to leave the week of Sept 15th. I will be taking the upper Mississippi south to the Tenn Tom waterway and Mobile Alabama to the Gulf. I should be in the gulf late November. I tried to upload a couple pics hopefully they came thru. Charley

Charley,
I live less than a mile from Mobile Bay on the Eastern Shore- please let me know when you get close and we'll have a home made meal for you. Stay safe and stay in touch.
Caroline

Hi Caroline
I spent two months at Eastern Shore marina in Fairhope. I hit a log in Mobile bay. I was there mid November thru mid January. I have been all over the place since then and now am in St Augustine for engine repairs.
I wish I had contacted you but forgot all about our conversation. Im sure you heard about the Dauphin Island race tragedy . One of my friends from the marina died in the storm. That was hard to take. I was in the Bahamas at the time. I am headed south again but wont be in your area.
I wanted to thank you for the offer of the hot meal. I have met many nice people like you on my trip so far. Thanks Charley

Trapoc, GOOD ON YOU!!! you are out there doing what most just dream about. A year or so of cruising will refine many of the ideas that you were thinking about a couple of years ago. Keep us posted every once in a while, about how your adventure is going. Best of Luck. _____Grant.
