Keeping mast track when painting?

The best would of course be to remove the 285 rivits....but that is a pain....so how bad us it to paint the spar with the track installed?

Today there is paint under the track from its original. The track itself still have some paint inside its track but removed to about 85%. Needs to be removed to 100%?

Will use
Pettit alu protect
Pettit epoxy protect
2k poly urethane paint

Re: Keeping mast track when painting?

Just tape the track, and do it ! I took mine off, because the paint I took off was 22 yrs young and peeling ! I used airplane aluminum strip to get the old off, then media blasted, etc. one of the issues you may run into is tat if you have corrosion, under the track, this will cause problems later on !
