HOW TO RE-DO STRIP AROUND DECK

I want to get rid of the blue and paint grey. The part you see is sanded with 3M 40 grit. It barely does anything. How do I go about this and what products would I need. Thanks to all for input. You always solve my problems!

Thinking out loud and not answering your question, I wonder if this would be an appropriate place to consider some type of vinyl wrap. If so...if just a fairly uniform stripe, this might save a lot of time/mess for perhaps not too much money.

That's a thought! Thanks, I'll look into it.

Re: HOW TO RE-DO STRIP AROUND DECK

zengirl, if you're wanting to paint it, you have a big job ahead of you. That is probably LPU paint, and it will all need to be given "tooth", and then, to cover the dark blue, you're going to need a number of coats, which if they get scratched, will still show through dark blue.

I don't like to be discouraging, but i think I'd repair the small sanded spot, and live with the dark blue.

Re: HOW TO RE-DO STRIP AROUND DECK

Clean, sand, prime and paint following manufacturer's directions or vinyl wrap it.

I doubt it would sand off but try a 80 or 100 grit AO paper. 40 grit would not be my choice for removing paint.

Soda blasting would get the paint off but it's messy and would require filling/faring to look good with paint.

You could try chemical paint stripper on it but it probably won't work well.

Re: HOW TO RE-DO STRIP AROUND DECK

looks like that is blue gel coat from the mold sanding through it will either leave raw fiberglass or white gelcoat.

will need to be acetone or MEK cleaned to remove wax then sanded, then epoxy primer, then two pack polyeurathane spray painted for best results

Once your find out how much a proper paint job costs it’s surprising what small blemishes you can learn to live with. I think a few wrinkles and dings are a sign of character.

if the blue strip does prove to be gelcoat,it is not that difficult to polish out imperfections.

this is done by first cleaning with acetone to remove wax, then sanding with wet and dry sand paper 400,800,1200 then 2000 grit paper with plenty of water for lubrication and to stop the paper clogging.

then use a cutting paste (G3) on a soft mop with a variable speed disc grinder to get a high finish, then polish with silicone wax https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/11372130523...saAp70EALw_wcB
