Flattening Agent with Awlgrip non skid or not?

What is the benefit of using a flattening agent in rolled Awl Grip non skid?

Mostly glare off deck. Also helps hide imperfections, gloss shows everything. I use less than can recommendation, the griptex hides some gloss. I prefer a slight satin hue and I like the contrast.
