Engine access panel

Greetings all,

I am about to take possession of a 1982 Pacific Seacraft 37. I have a question about engine access. Has anyone cut an access panel in the quarterberth inside wall. The surveyor and I both thought it would provide way better access to the back end of the engine, transmission, exhaust system and propshaft.
Are there any structural reasons why I should not do this seemingly simple project?

Thanks so much,

OBT
