cabin sole materials

i know the traditional cabin sole is teak with holly inserts but has anyone used the new teak with holly inserts 1/8in sheeting. im curious as the guy at windsor plywood is telling me that many people are putting it on their floors running them less than half the price of teak. thoughts opinions ..... thanks

The made up sole material is veneer teak with veneer holy inserts. The veneer is, of course quite thin. If the 1/8" material veneer is the same thickness as the thicker sole material it wouldn't matter and you might be able to laminate it to your existing sole, losing an i/8" (raising the top of the sole). You don't throw away the old sole. You have templates to use for cutting the new laminate and you save money. Sounds like a smart move.

Has anyone tried cork flooring like they sell at Home Depot? I know they used to use cork flooring in naval vessels and it wore like iron considering the anal retentive way the petty officers used to make us scrub it after every other watch change.
