Bottom Job Question

I've all the paint off the bottom, there are spots that will need some fiberglass work and plenty of filling. I had to remove some of the gel coat to get at blisters as there were so many in the water line down ~ 1 foot area.

Can I do this work (fiberglass/ filling some spots and fairing them ) while the hull continues to dry out? I then plan to barrier coat.

Or will doing this cause a bad repair, or will it cause the hull to dry less/slower?

I only had a couple so my method was to get it all completely dry. Resin won't bond if wet. Or it will bond now and fail later. Used moisture meter. Circled area in pencil that showed dampness, this way I could see the moisture retreat as it dried. Use heat lamp and/or fans if necessary. Don't rush it.

used the moisture meter. it's uneven wet. using a tramex mep.


from water line Up is dry as a bone


from waterline down ~ 1 ft was red beep after sanding, now low yellow ( where all the pox was) between 2 layers of gelcoat blue and white now sanded downto fiberlass and blue,


from 1 foot lower is a med to high green.


the rear of the keel was red beep now low yellow.


rudder was med green




I did some filling today with interlux watertite first time doing this. it was a pretty quick process. only in the green reading areas.

If you are trying to dry the hull you really need to peel off ALL the gelcoat. Water was under substantial pressure when it made it through the gel the first time, now it is not.
