'black' port holes

my portholes are black- are they copper or bronze or what and do i leave them that way ??? i heard it is bad luck or something to go against Neptunes plan for them - which is natures plan i guess.... thx

Show us a photo, please. I'm thinking a black surround to the port lights is unusual, possibly black anodized? but why????

Black anodized aluminum portholes is not uncommon. Can you rub any of the "black" off?

Also could be black plastic of one type or another. What kind of boat is it?
