A recomendation for quality service

I have been talking to someone on the Lats and Atts board about diesel generators and parts. His name is Pat McCartin (Never Monday) here on this board. I have never met him but after several emails and a couple of phone calls about what I needed I decided to take a chance and send him a large check. He is very knowlageble and was a pleasure to deal with. I have receive the genset and it is everything that I hoped it would be. I am very happy with the way I have been treated by Pat and will continue to do business with him. His business is Inland marine diesel phone 404-512-4414. I recomend him highly.

I recognize Pat’s name from other forums, where he is well known for his knowledgeable and helpful advice. (ie: SailboatOwners.com, etc), as well as his web-alias Never Monday (ie: The Virtual Anchorage, etc)
I’m glad you connected the dots for us Gunnar, and welcome to the forum, Pat.

Please correct me, if I’ve got it wrong:

Pat:

In the face of this evidence, how could I hold spelling against anyone?

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rest can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Fcuknig amzanig huh?

HOW TO WRITE GOOD:
1. Avoid alliteration. Always.
2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
3. Avoid cliches like the plague. (They're old hat.)
4. Employ the vernacular.
5. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
6. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.
7. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
8. Contractions aren't necessary.
9. Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
10. One should never generalize.
11. Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."
12. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
13. Don't be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous.
14. Be more or less specific.
15. Understatement is always best.
16. One-word sentences? Eliminate.
17. Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
18. The passive voice is to be avoided.
19. Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms.
20. Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
21. Who needs rhetorical questions?
22. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.

Welcome & regards,
Gord

50% of that I found funny. The other 50% I didn't understand the big words
Someone somewhere had a caption at the foot of their posts,
"why use a big word, when a diminuative one will suffice"

Distinguished others on words ...

“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter - 'tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.” ~Mark Twain

"Philosophy is common sense with big words." ~ James Madison

“Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words? He thinks I don't know the ten-dollar words. I know them all right. But there are older and simpler and better words, and those are the ones I use.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

"Don't, Sir, accustom yourself to use big words for little matters." ~ Dr Samuel Johnson
