Yeah my other passion is 4wding. I had a Nissan Safari/Patrol Short wheelbase all tricked out. Had to sell it a couple years back. I wore it out and it was going to cost too much to fix, so ditched it. I hope to get another cool toy next year and trick it out for extreme 4wdign stuff again. Maruader on here, is another extreme 4WDing maniac.

Now back to topic, don't turn the engine over for too long a periods. 30Secs is absolute max on a starter and I don't personaly recomend anymore than a 10-15sec burst at max. It's too hard on the starters if you go longer. Keep a hand on it every now and then and check for heat. If you have a decompression lever on the engine, use that. It takes the load off the starter.
Yes shut off the water intake valve. There is enough water in the pump to lubricate the pump for a short while. Remember not to run the pump shut off if the engine starts.
You should be able to prime the fuel through manually all the way to the injector pump. Don't use the starter for any of that. Once you have all the air bleed out of the IPump, you can then crack the nut at an injector and do the final bleed with the starter. Some engines will start without the need to bleed the injector, some won't.
If you have a series of filters, then use the bleed nut on the top of each filter and bleed air in series leaving the IP for last. Don't go to the IP and bleed as a small air bubble will remain trapped in a filter and come through at the worst opportunity.
