Yanmar Trouble

can someone tell me why my transmission won;t drop out? Ihave undone the the shaft coupling and removed the 6 nuts form the engine side, taken out the engine mounting scews .Theres clearance enough on the shaft end but it just seems as though there is something internal that is stopping her from sliding of the spline. Ihave to get to the thrust race as Ibelieve it is the cause of smoking from the engine in foward gear.. Ihave checked for binding in the skeg bearing and for warp in the shaft itself but all is in good order...o it can only be the thrust race. the engine pulls like a bull in reverse with no sign of smoke whatsoever, in foward gear she just spews oil staight out the exhaust and smokes like a chimneyany help would be appreciated...ROSSCO

6 nuts on the engine side?

there should be 8 bolts around the bell housing, 4 at the shaft, misc cables and stuff then off she comes.

What model do you have?
