Yanmar issued recall on SD40 and early SD50

Through my mechanic I learned that Yanmar issued a recall on SD40 and early SD50s. The front oil seals are breaking due to excessive pressure built inside the housing. Yanmar's solution is to lower the oil level in the transmission. The new recommended level is the bottom of the dipstick. The company is also selling a new dipstick with the new recommended levels.
In searching CF I saw a short thread by captain Bill started June 30 2010 indicating that very same problem.
Does anyone have more information about this problem?

I'm surprised they just didn't recommend replacing the seals every 500hrs like they did when they discovered they engineered the cone clutches incorrectly.
