Yamaha outboards: Changed fuel joint over years?

Wondering if a spare tank & fuel line I have can be used with an older model Yamaha.

Can I use my fuel line for a 2004 Yamaha 4 cycle outboard on a 1989 8hp two cycle?

I know the fuel needs to be mixed right for a cycle, but I'm wondering if the "fuel joint" has changed over the years for Yamaha, or if 4 cycle vs 2 cycle fuel connectors are different.

Not necessarily 2 to 4 thing but yes there is a fat and a thin barb Yamaha joint. I don't remember which came first.
