Volve penta gearbox

I have a volvo penta 2002 with a gearbox ref: KGMS2B, No: 14012, 2.37:1 Reduction

I intend to fit a Beta 25 but am not sure whether the current MS2B gearbox is a down angled gearbox or straight. It is difficult to tell while the engine is still fitted.

Can anyone help please.

I have a 2003T and its straight. No idea of the MS2 would fit or not.

Re: Volve penta gearbox

Brian, I think you will also need to check which way the gearbox turns as there are both LH and RH gearboxes available for volvo 200X series. My 2003 has a LH prop.

Re: Volve penta gearbox

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Brian.

The MS2B gearbox was available either with a straight output shaft, or a downward-angled output shaft (7o).
The straight type was 2.3:1.
The angled type was available with either 2.4:1 or 3.0:1 ratios.

Re: Volve penta gearbox

I have the Volvo Penta MS2B -L The straight Version. Gear box..The last letter L shows it is a level box. The letter A would show an angled box.
It fitted right onto A three cylinder 20 HP Kabota D1005E with no problems. ALL the holes lined up in the right places for both the gearbox and engine..
And confirmed today By Volvo the gear box runs in either direction at the same ratio
2.3:1 as it has what they called a cone clutch.

So a R/H or L/H prop will not be a problem either. Even if the rotation of the engine is not the same is the Gearbox output..

Now I am no mechanic I think and others will confirm this if it is right The Beta engine is the same as the Kabota
Flywheel housing if not the same engine..
