Re: this pulley is kaput

Yeah LOL @ IslandHopper.
Replace a cheap part with a whole new engine? Now that is over capitalising.

Re: this pulley is kaput

Well, I suppose if the OP is a machinist like delmarrey or has a friend that can make a part like delmarrey made it would be a fairly cheap fix. However to have a machinist come to the boat, do all the measuring needed and make the parts, fit and test plus the new water pump, not so cheap anymore I think.

What shape is the rest of the engine in?
Is the heat exchanger still in good shape?
How about the exhaust cooling injection elbow?
Maybe the OP should check the timing belt to see what shape its in.

These are all things that should be considered of course.

The rest of the engine is in good working order as far as i know. I've checked the timing belt, fine. I'm not looking to repower as the engine has lots of life left in her.

Delmarrey, do you still have the Pathfinder engine? If so, any interest in parting it out?

Re: this pulley is kaput

No I don't. I rebuilt the head, replaced the bad parts and sold it as a whole for reinstallation.

BTW it's not the belt you have to worry about. It's idler pulley. You should carry a spare if you going to be more then a couple hours away from parts. I was up in the Desolation Sound, BC Canada when mine started screaming. The dog heard it the day before we did. He kept moving away from the hatch entry above the motor and going up on the foredeck.
