I noticed in the post above you said it looks like steam?

it does smell very rich. i think the oil injection may not be working also. i have now mixed my own 50-1 ratio fuel and oil. ill give it ago tomorrow once ive put the carb back together.ill leave the jets in carb clean for the night

many thanks

You might also check the float itself. Make sure it floats in a cup of water or gas. Sometimes they get 'waterlogged' and won't float in the bowl so won't rise up to close the needle valve. Not a common problem, however.

Also, reassemble the carb back on the engine. Crank it without trying to actually start it - maybe pull the wire off the plug or use the stop switch if you have one. What you are trying to do is to get fuel to flow in to the carb. If the float/needle is working the carb will not overflow.
Great information. thank you.
ill try all of these . thanks again

I don't think you can tell how good the jets are just from observation. Soak them in alcohol.

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

Good news guys.

The engine is now running fantastic. Starts on 1st pull.

I stripped the carb and cleaned jets. Also stripped the fuel pump and cleaned it.

I also mixed an oil and fuel mix of 50-1.

Thankyou guys so much for all your help. Much appreciated guys.

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

90% of engine problems are fuel related, IMHO. Thats true for outboards and inboard diesels, IMHO. Please note the IMHO.

One last bit of advice. Now that the engine is back in service you should order a rebuild kit for the carb and the fuel pump. And now you're a carb expert....

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

Hi guys. Having a little trouble again.

The engine is running fine. However I'm concerned about the smoke.

Also not much water is coming out of the hole at top of shaft. It's just dribbling out.

The smoke is white. I'm concerned I could damage the engine if I keep using it.

Any ideas thanks. Could it be impeller?

Thanks guys.

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

First check to see if the pee hole is plugged. But it does sound like an impeller problem, especially the white smoke.

+1 on the impeller. You should always carry a spare.

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

Shall I shove a piece of wire down the pee hole?

I'll be an impeller this week and get it fitted before I go out again.

Thanks guys.

I usually use a tooth pick but a paper clip will do. You don't have to shove it deep, usually it gets gunked up right at the hole.

Haha just got back from my boat.

Tried starting engine and guess what. No go.

Beginning to get annoyed with this engine tbh.

Thanks.

Re: Suzuki dt8c Won't Start

hi guys been looking at engine again.

Managed to get it started yesterday briefly but it just cut straight out again.

I did a compression test yesterday and the readings are within 10 percent of each other. and the readings were pretty good.

I have fitted new spark plugs. fitted a new fuel filter.

the carbs are filling with fuel ok.

i am totally stuck for ideas. when the engine does start it sounds as if it is starving of fuel. iv tried today and it just wont start at all.

I really dont see why it wont start, compression is good, fuel is new fuel and is reaching the carb. Has a good spark.

its just a mystery.

many thanks guys

Re: Suzuki dt8c Won't Start

hi guys. just finished looking at engine.

i sprayed some fuel into the spark plug chambers. the engine started up on the 1st pull. so fuel is obviously still not getting to the spark plugs.

any more suggestions would be superb many thanks

Clean the carb! Sometimes you have to do it a few times. Make sure all the jets are clean.

Re: Suzuki dt8c Won't Start

hi guys i have given the jets another good clean. the engine has fired today and ran. it keeps running. sometimes it is easy to start then other times a little harder. however it is a lot better.

I have been looking around the engine and there seems to be a pipe missing on the side.

i have shown this in pics. the 1st pic is at the top of engine.

This 2nd pic shows the same thing however there is a piece missing of it which i found in the engine casing.

does anyone know what this is for? i gather a pipe goes on it.

many thanks
