Questions before replacing freshwater pump

Hey all

Just noticed my freshwater pump is leaking coolant, i'm guessing its the gasket, but if i'm replacing the gasket, i'm thinking to just replace the pump with a new one and putting this one into the spares.

Anyways heres a couple photos and a parts diagram. Before i pull the trigger on the new pump, i figured i'd double check to see if others think its the gasket or if it might be something else that i'm overlooking

That is the coolant pump ,it shouldn’t be weeping rust, how often has the coolant been changed ,that maybe the gasket or a pin hole in the casting removal and inspection is the only safe answer⛵️⚓️

It maybe be rust from the outside!
EDIT - looking closer, is that a drop or a stain in the photos?

Fortunately it's not rust. Our coolant is orange. Actually might be a good idea to maybe flush the system and switch to a different colored one to indicate if there is rust issues occuring down the road. System was flushed back in 2020 and i put this coolant in after rebuilding the turbo.

I think i'll pull the trigger on a new pump and seal.

That leak might originate from higher up, possibly the hose..... or trickle down from the mechanical seal. If you have a lot of hours on the engine ( or high pulley loads), that makes your decision very justifiable.

Re: Questions before replacing freshwater pump

Pulled the trigger on a new pump and seals. Should be ready to pick up next week sometime. Hopefully my order from Toad Marine comes in around the same time so I can tear down heat exchanger as well as oil lube cooler.
