Perkins 4-108 - Useful Life

Around 6000 hrs (if meter is original) over 34 year span. Smokes a little on cold startup, goes from oil change to oil change without having to add. During my ownership have adjusted lifters, rebuilt water pump">raw water pump numerous times, replaced heat exchanger and all hoses,starter, filters. Has started everytime, even in freezing temps. Never died. Zinc size 1 (f) or 1(e). In heat exchanger.

pushes all 25000 pounds of me at 6.5 knots @ 2400 rpm and 1.2 Gallons/Hour. It's hard to ask much more than that IMO.

Ya must be running full throttle and be a bit over-propped?

I average 0.6 Gallons/hour spending most of my time @ 2100 RPM, 22,000 lbs displacement, 5.3 knots.
