Perkins 4.108

Hi,sorry for the trouble, but iam new to inboard engines, although i have been sailing since 1973 it's allways been with outboard engines,so here we go,my present engine a perkins 4.107 has expired.so i went with a friend to view a low line perkins 4.108,the starter on this engine is on the opposite side from the 4.107,the 4.108 starter viewing from the stern forward is on the left hand side,my friend was of the opinion that the 108 would not fit my gearbox a borg warner velvet drive, please if someone can advise i would be very thankful.Thanks.Ronnie.

G'day Ronnie,
If your gearbox is either a 71-72-73 series the most common used on 4107-8 motors there should not be a problem .Some very early 4107s used parson gear boxes these had fly wheel spider type cushion drives this will not concern your installation as v-drive hydraulic boxes never used this system.

re perkins 108

Thanks for the input guy's but the set up is not a v configuration but in-line just an old fashioned seadog 30,if the 107 bellhousing won't work will i have to get an 108 housing.Thanks.Ronnie.

The bellhousing diemensions on the engine side are the same, there is a slight chance the gbox adapter plate may need alteration.
