Look at my "new" outboard!

I found this outboard in my grandpas workshop when he passed away a couple of years ago. My grandma said I could have anything I thought I could use and I took this bad boy home.



It looks as if it was only used, at most, a handful of times.

My Dad and I just finished starting it up with the ear muff on a water hose deal. Runs so well!

I just bought a dinghy to put it on. So exciting.

Don't use old gas, ethanol-free if possible, good-quality 2-stroke oil, and it should last a couple of decades.

It may need leaded gas, or an additive.
I think that the lead was a lubricant.

Very old 2 strokes do not need, and have never needed leaded gas to help lubricate the top end of the motor. The 2 stroke oil/gas mixture is designed to provide all the necessary lubrication for the motor. Stay away from modern alcohol car fuel and use a very good quality 2 stroke oil as stated previously in the thread, and you have a cool dingy motor.... Joe

I have a 1950's era long shaft British Seagull 12hp. It takes 12:1 gas to oil mixture.
I have not used it in 30 years but assume that it still works.
Does anyone want it?

Boy that looks a lot like a Johnson/Evinrude. I wonder if they made them for Chrysler labeling then?

AGREE !!!! Take Note.....premium ethanol free gas....and for me...AMSoil 2 stroke


OH, and I always use 50 to 1 ratio, smokes a bit when starting but.....

It has an oblong, oversize gas tank.
But I think that shipping from Burlington, Ontario might be a problem.

A 1950's Seagull will only run well on 10:1 gas to oil mixture. Seagulls made in the 70s with a Villars carb can run on 25:1 if the proper carb needle is used. If not use 10:1

Home Depot sells non ethanol fuel in gallons either premixed or straight gas. A bit expensive but it will save removing and cleaning carburetor on a more than frequent basis.

Before you splash it, replace the seals in the gearbox and replace the oil, also replace the water impeller. They harden with age--and you can do damage to an old motor which has had little use very quickly if water gets in or it overheats. IT might cost fifty bucks for seals and an impeller--but it is money well spent,.

Seagull were rugged and reliable with a Villiers motor. Very crude by today's standards, but they did the job.

I recall something like that, too. The cowls are remarkably similar to my 1990 Evinrude 9.9 2 stroke.
