Shawndear, thanks the data about your jh3 engine and it's impressive service life.

Could you tell us how you operate you engine? What is your cuise RPM? Do you operate in neutral for charging? Do you make short hops or long passages?

Here is the good news. They don't often make 8000 hours without being given at least some basic care and maintanence. I'd guess that statistically, most Yanmars with 8000 hours on them have a lot better chance of going to 10,000 than most with 1500 on them.

A valid point! So many small yacht engines die from neglect and inappropriate usage (5 minutes running in and out of marina).

I paid 14k for our 4JH4-TE with a ZF MIV15 v drive. This is also with a business discount when my folks owned a marina/boatyard.
