Injector Pump Won't Bleed

Don't crank the engine too many times without closing your seacock. You don't want seawater pumping into your exhaust system then backing up into your cyclinders when it doesn't start. As soon as it fires then open your seacock again.
Somehow you have not gotten the air out of the system. Filters need to be full, pump needs to be full then crack the nuts at the injectors to get a solid stream of fuel (no bubbles).

You are smart to walk away for a while. Be careful about cranking too much as the impeller may put water into the lift box to the point of filling your pistons and ruining your motor. Maybe close the intake at this point and hurry down to open it once the motor is running??

The fuel line is under pressure after the lift pump. So any leak between the tank and the lift pump will allow air to be pulled in by the suction from the lift pump. From the sound of it there may be a leak between the tank and the primary filter. The air issue may go away since you cleared the fuel line.

I was in a similar situation not long ago. I went back to the owners manual and discovered I was bleeding the lines the wrong way for years. Don't know why it stopped working but it got going after I went by the book.

I think I'm following the right order but it's my first time bleeding her so I'm still getting a sense of what is "right". How the lift pump is supposed to feel and what I should be seeing at each step of the bleeding process.

Hopefully the next round will be the one I win.

Feel is right. But I listen too. When I turn off the stereo and hear diesel dripping back into the tank I know the system is blead to the secondary filter. That is where the first return for my 4-108 lives.

Whoop, whoop! I ran the engine today. I was awfully tempted to go sailing but I really want to polish the fuel, having seen the crap that is in the bottom of the tank first hand. So I'm hunting up the parts to build a polishing system, without breaking the bank.

we had the problem you described while underway-- was a blockage in line by dirt --eeeek... and juan lu bled teh system yet AGAIN,after blowing out the clog , to make 21 times of same activity--- i must get a couple of racor systems so i dont have to undergo that mayhem again.......

I wish those Racors weren't so expensive but it is spooky when the engine quits at the wrong time!

Somewhere I came across a neat design for polishing. I haven't been able to find the link but the inlet tube fed in through the lid of a large glass jar and down to the bottom and the outlet of the jar was close to the top. This trapped sludge and water and then it fed thorough a filter, and the pump and back into the tank.

I had the same problem on my Yanmar. I put the exhaust end of a vacuum into my fuel inlet. The problem was cleaning up the fuel after that.......i2f

Hummingway, You can get electric fuel pumps at any auto parts store. They range in price from $25.00 to $100 new. Of course you can pay a lot more. Older Volvos had an external inline fuel pump. You are not looking for a 100 gallon and hour pump more like a 10 to 20 gallon an hour pump. TRY Oriellys, Auto Zone, Napa ect auto parts stores or find a junk yard and get one for $5.00 to $20.00. There must be thousands available so get 2 or 3 for back ups.

I've called a few auto places without success surprisingly. I did find one at an injector place and I suspect if I went into the auto parts places they would actually have them but the phone people don't realize it.

Getting a decent priced filter is another matter. There's talk of a postal strike up here but I'm still thinking I may order from a place in the states that has some tractor stuff.

Good luck with the fuel polisher but it would really be a good idea to get in there and scrub the tank clean.

It's a built in and the only access is through the hole where the gauge plugs in. I don't think I'll be able to get in to it. Maybe with a long bottle washer ...
