Hurth 50 Question/Opinion

I am seeking worldly advice/opinion on a hurth 50 transmission. The tranny has lost forward power. I have checked engagement arm and just about positive it is the tranny. Reverse works perfectly, but put it in forward and shaft spins but no torque/propulsion.
So the BIG decision is to rebuild or replace with new ZF-6. The cost difference is approx. 500.00. It is 800.00, for local shop with high praise, to rebuild or 1239.00 for new from Trans Atlantic Diesel!
So what say the experts here on the forum?
The boat is a Lagoon 37 TPI, transmission has upwards of 3-4k hours, engines are Perkins M-20 18 hp

I've always had good luck with the Hurth boxes. I've seen some complaints on this forum regarding new ZF versions. Not sure if that means anything.. you know the internet. Does the 37 have V drives like the 42?
Does the rebuild including all new but the case? I guess $500 is $500 saved.

The Hurth 50 was designed for very small boats.I just replaced with the ZF6 ,should have got the ZF10 as it fits the same.Check 'Marine parts express',good prices.
