Is it running when this coolant loss occurs?

One of the pipes in the heat exchanger might be broken. That would send coolant out the exhaust.

It could be that, or a blown head gasket, both assuming the coolant loss is when the engine is running.
First thing I would try is to pressure test the cooling system, often done on cars and therefore not expensive. It will confirm a leak and can be used to trace where the leak is.

You can also test the coolant for combustion gasses, usually if a head gasket is blown, there will be some combustion gases in the coolant. Both common automotive tests

Usually when there's a heat exchanger leak the coolant gets replaced with raw water. An internal leak is more likely .. gasket or manifold corrosion. I'd also recommend checking your oil to see if it's water contaminated .. milky / coffey colored.

Most likely a bad head gasket!
